RELIABLE, COST EFFECTIVE FIRE DOOR INSPECTIONS

FIRE DOOR INSPECTIONS

Fire resisting doors are essential for fire protection in almost all buildings. They often suffer damage from misuse or general wear and tear. Because of this, regular inspections are required to ensure they function properly. Fire door inspections help identify and address issues, minimising fire spread and providing occupants with more time to escape in the event of a fire. An inspection plan should include routine in-house checks and detailed surveys by accredited fire door experts.

Fire doors are required to be compliant with Building Regulations and fire safety laws, such as the Regulatory Reform Order 2005. This compliance provides life-saving measures by protecting escape routes and high-risk areas, while also preventing major financial damage to your property.

The Responsible Person must ensure a proper fire risk assessment is conducted, including checking the condition of fire doors. However, fire risk assessments may not cover all doors and frames thoroughly. Sampling can reveal major issues like poorly fitting doors, missing seals, or visible damage, but a detailed inspection may be needed for a complete assessment.

How can CJE Help?

Our fire door inspectors perform thorough, non-destructive surveys and provide detailed reports on the condition of the entire door system. An example of our non-destructive and non-intrusive survey will consist of:

  • Review the fire door signage
  • Evaluate the condition, fire-resisting qualities, fitting, and operation of hinges and hardware
  • Check the condition and operation of any hold-open devices
  • Verify the effectiveness of fire door closing devices
  • Inspect locks and latches to ensure they are fully operational
  • Inspect vision panels and glazing to confirm their suitability
  • Assess cold smoke seals
  • Assess intumescent strips
  • Identify relevant markings to identify the fire rating of the door system
  • Review the gaps between the door leaf and frame, including the threshold
  • Visually inspect the fire door frame and door leaf
  • Review the materials used in the doorset installation
  • Provide a clear action plan with defect locations, photographic evidence, and recommended remedial actions
